Aaron's Aart
Aaron Cassidy’s adventures in jewellery-making began when he landed a job in a local jewellery studio in country Victoria. Here he performed tasks like polishing and finishing pre-cast pieces, but ill-health prevented him from continuing in the role.
Aaron developed an interest in chainmail and started making bracelets from picture hanging wire, wrapping jump rings off a screwdriver and cutting them with side cutters.
“I ventured into silver, taught myself basic soldering, and managed to sell a piece here and there,” Aaron says with pride.
Sometime later Aaron was asked to make a piece from white gold and set a ruby in to it. He had never set before and was frightened to try.
Aaron said, “I looked around for a jeweller who might set the stone for me and couldn’t find anyone locally who would take the job. So, I approached my previous employer, Glenn, who said that he was confident that I had the ability to do the job myself. These words of encouragement changed my life!”
“Armed with a humble confidence, I watched as many YouTube videos as I could find and gave it a go. Success! My world opened up and I was setting everything I could get my hands on!”
Nine months later Aaron is learning new things every day. He says, “I absolutely love making jewellery, working with beautiful materials and endeavouring to produce pieces that will be passed down through the generations.”
“My goal is to have an ‘A-lister’ wear one of my pieces whilst strutting their stuff on the red carpet. I think that would be really cool.”
Or should that be an 'Aa-lister'? Whoever gets the privelige of wearing Aaron's Aart, we are sure they will feel good about the experience.
