Gail Cathro-Todd and her daughter Iza were considering other offerings to complement their two aesthetic businesses, Skinsay Clinic and Skinsay Injectables in Taranaki, NZ, when a friend of theirs in the UK suggested Permanent Jewellery as an option.

The suggestion came about because a friend of the friend, Millie, who owns a beauty salon, was one of the first businesses in the UK to offer a permanent jewellery service.

Gail said, “We loved the idea and wanted to be one of the first to set up in Taranaki, so we got to work, and earlier this year succeeded in setting up in around 6 weeks!”

The name was easily agreed on, and Taranaki Permanent Jewellery was born.

Millie helped Gail and Iza with some online training for their new venture. It was during this training that she recommended the Orion Sunstone mPulse as the best welding machine she has used in comparison to other machines. 

Gail says enthusiastically, “We are having great success with the Orion and it’s small enough to travel with, which is ideal, as we love providing Pop Ups around Taranaki & beyond including our base in Westown, New Plymouth. 

Gail and Iza have met hundreds of people through their new venture.

Iza says, “We love it when people return to us for more and bring a new friend or family member. Our youngest customer so far is 4yrs old and the oldest in their 80’s.”

Gail adds, “It is such a pleasurable experience creating individual pieces for people as everyone has their own unique style and working with my daughter and keeping it as a family business is so much fun and warms my heart.”

Iza recalls, “The most memorable client I have had the pleasure of creating permanent jewellery for is a wonderful lady, who has come back to Taranaki Permanent Jewellery many times. She decided to use mixed metals (gold and silver) for her 5 bracelets, alongside a variety of connectors and dangly shapes and gems. Additionally, the lady decided upon having a hand chain that connects from a bracelet to a ring, up the back of her hand.”

“Of course we had to add some bling, using 2 small silver cubic zirconia and 1 large gold cubic zirconia on a silver chain. This was such a fun experience for myself and her. I love seeing my clients all blinged up!”
